Mega Man X4 Emulator3/28/2021
The content seem to match except for a few of the extracted bin files.
![]() What I could do (the easy part): - Replaced the opening movie, just to see if replacing an.STR for another was as straight forwad as I thought. At least for this one it was, since the filesizes matched. Replaced most voice clips stored in.XA format (Maverick in-game voices). Didnt replace the title screen voice (the one saying Megaman X4) nor the boss introduction voice clips (to keep their english names) What I havent done (the hard part): - I havent touched the rest of the.STR videos yet (the ones I want to add subtitles to). Im not sure how easy or hard this would be once I have the editing done, I guess it all depends of how similar I can get the file sizes of the edited videos to be. Couldnt replace the.XA containing the ending song because the filesize was almost 5 MB bigger than the american one. I tried using the tool that changes the max file sized allowed on the Table of Contents of the CD (TOC Changer), but 5 MB is more than it allowed to change. Gonna see if I can find a workaround for this. I still cant find the in-game voices for X and Zero (which really worries me, since its the most important part of this whole thing). Its not contained in any.XA file, so my guess its in one or more.ARC files, which I dont know how to handle. Googling around, it seems that the.ARC format is a custom compression format, used only by a handful of game. Now I dont know if it can be done without actual knowledge in the matter. Maybe the only way for me to do this would be blindly replacing any.ARC file that looks like it could be a voice clip, and do a bunch of tests. You probably have to find a way to restore the voice line before the fight. And I think the song in the Megaman x4 intro is the same as the japanese version, and only the saturn version has the jpop song replace on to it. ![]() For example, replacing only PL00.ARC (into PL00U.ARC) successfuly restores Xs japanese voices, but this is what you get instead of text.. Zeros dialogue, when replacing PL02.ARC. So I guess those.ARC files cointain more than just the voices, they contain some text andor font or text pointer data too. Which means that unless I can find a way to extract and rebuild each.ARC file, Im stuck. So far, Ive tried FreeArc, Zipzag, and ZipGenius 6. Since its a Capcom game I bet its just yet another variant on the pointer table format they have going on the DS. At least for me. I googled around, and I found that the tool has limited support for Windows 7 x64, it barely runs. Can anyone with Windows XP x86 installed test this for me These are the two files I need to extract Id really appreciate it Otherwise, I might just try setting up XP Mode. I tried setting up a VM with XP on it, and it didnt work either. Maybe Ill try sending a message to the author of the tool and see if hes willing to give me some pointers. For example, url this guy has made progress in Lucas Gilbertson-ing Zero as well as Mark Gatha-ing X.url. I tried the first version and it worked, the only issue is that I do not think that version allow you to repack the ARC. Its weird tough as I did some poking around the Mega Man X4 files and the ARC files you wanted extracted have a slightly different file size compared the the one I had.
